Dear Clients and Friends,
This is a challenging time for our communities, our nation, and the world. We’re being called to adjust to sudden, radical changes in our everyday lives and to our expectations for the future. The coronavirus pandemic and economic fallout seemed almost too much to bear, yet now we are also faced with unprecedented unrest and riots in over 140 U.S. cities.
As a firm, PWJohnson Wealth and Legacy is called to assist our clients and the larger community to live more prosperous and purposeful lives. We recognize that the well-being of individuals is limited and constrained by the larger world we live in, and that it’s vital to address issues that encompass far more than numbers and money. That’s why we — and countless other financial planning firms — look to holistic and community-minded issues that have a direct bearing on everyone’s prosperity and peace of mind. We are all deeply connected and live on one planet.
The recent deaths of George Floyd, Ahmaud Arbery, and Breonna Taylor are tragic reminders in a series of injustices that have yet again shined a light on the historical prejudice and systemic racism that exist in our country. As your partner, you deserve to know where PWJohnson stands on these critical issues facing our nation, our communities, and our friends.
We believe Black Lives Matter. To our Black and Brown community members: we’re sorry. We hear you. We see you. We stand with you. We are eager to be part of the change we know needs to happen, and are ready to foster that change in our industry, in our company, and in our community.
We recognize that creating change is a shared responsibility and we all must do our part. The burden cannot be placed on our Black and Brown colleagues to tell us what needs to be done. We must work together to share ideas, create solutions, and find inspiration.
In the coming weeks and months, we will continue to put diversity, inclusion, and equity at the forefront of our initiatives. We will work to build bridges of connection, of understanding, and of shared responsibility. We declare that we all count. We all matter. We stand ready to engage in the larger conversation of shared responsibility and sustainable solutions that include and benefit generations yet to come.
The United States was built on lofty and ambitious ideals that we are still far from exemplifying with consistency. It is these ideals that we still stand with. And we are ready for intelligent, considered systemic changes that will move us toward “a more perfect union.”
Stay healthy. Stay safe. We will get through this together.
