We begin our show this week by answering a listeners question. This listener received advice from his planner that the IRS was looking to attack Roth IRA’s and that the dreaded AMT (alternative minimum tax) would be invoked if he were to contribute to a Roth instead of a 401k. This information is simply false. Unfortunately we see all too often people given unsound advice. At best it can be negligent, at worst criminal. In this case we discuss:

+ the merits of both 401ks and Roth IRA’s
+ when a Roth cannot be used
+ how to use both a Roth IRA and 401k effectively
+ when to use a Roth IRA and when to use a 401k

Our interview this week is with Peter Wheeler of Wheeler/Frost Associates Inc.. Peter is the author of the book Stock Options & Grants: The Executives Guide to Equity Compensation by AdvisorPress. Peter has over 36 years of experience in the financial services industry and wrote the book to answer questions his clients we asking including:

+ Which options do I exercise?
+ When do I exercise them?
+ Do I hold them once I exercise?
+ When should I sell?
+ What are the tax consequences?

In addition to this, in our interview we cover:

+ what is the difference between ISO’s and non-qualified options?
+ how do I tell what I have?
+ how is the planning for these different?
+ what are grants and when are they used?
+ why are grants becoming more popular with employers?
+ how can employers compensate employees without giving ownership?

Finally, Peter gives our listeners a very generous offer. Peter is offering his book, Stock Options and Grants, at a special discounted price to Pro Money Talk subscribers. By logging on to his website, http://www.wheelerfrost.com, and purchasing his book, our listeners can enter the promotional code PMT and receive $6 off the cover price plus free shipping and handling. Another benefit to listening to Pro Money Talk!

Until next week, here’s to your success!
